Project Information
Fredonia is located in Northern Arizona near the Utah border. The issue is municipal water scarcity, and Desert Rose H2O has been tasked to recommend water saving solutions. You can find our photo gallery here.
The team accomplished the following tasks in order to complete the project:
Tasks
Task 1: RESEARCH aquifer, precipitation and population information
Task 2: SITE VISIT in Fredonia, AZ and Water Canyon, UT
Task 3: DATA ANALYSIS of water demand, supply and growth rates
Task 4: CREATE SCALED RESPONSE aseries of recommendations
Task 5: REPORT FINDINGS
Our final recommendations are to increase the billing rate structure, build a new reservoir, build a wastewater treatment plant and to enforce water restrictions during the summer. We predict adding a $10 a month base fee to the utility pricing will yield $55,000 in revenue that can be used to subsidize water conservation efforts. Building a new reservoir will add more stored water available and reduce waste. Building a wastewater treatment plant will enable the use of non-potable water for agriculture and watering lawns. If the stored water during the summer becomes close to depletion, the Town should enact restrictions to residential homes.
